Meet the SCION Hall of Fame 2026 winners
🏆 SCION VISIONARY 2026 – SSFN initiated by SNB and SIX
The SCION Visionary award recognizes individuals whose leadership, strategic thinking, and long-term vision help shape the future of SCION and drive its adoption.
Why they won: In 2022, after years of preparation, the Swiss National Bank (SNB) and SIX launched the Secure Swiss Finance Network (SSFN), a pioneering financial communications network based on SCION technology developed by ETH Zurich. The SSFN is the result of a joint effort in which autonomous participants collaborated to achieve an outcome that exceeds what each could accomplish alone. Today, SSFN supports secure communication across more than 300 financial institutions and underpins critical financial market infrastructures, including the Swiss Interbank Clearing (SIC) system, which processes up to CHF 220 billion in payments daily. Since going live, SSFN has recorded no outages, security breaches, or data breaches, demonstrating exceptional resilience, availability, and security.
The SCION Connector award celebrates individuals who bring people, organizations, and ideas together, creating partnerships and collaborations that strengthen the SCION ecosystem.
Why they won: Anapaya has been instrumental in bringing SCION from research into real-world deployment. The team has built the infrastructure that enables organizations and service providers to connect to the SCION Internet. Since its founding, Anapaya has developed and deployed SCION connectivity solutions used across critical sectors, helping expand the SCION ecosystem and make secure, resilient connectivity accessible to businesses and network providers.
The SCION Innovator award recognizes individuals who push the boundaries of SCION technology through innovation, technical development, and new applications.
Why they won: The Network Security Group at ETH Zurich made several pioneering contributions to the design, documentation, analysis, and implementation of the SCION architecture. Sample projects in this space include EPIC, Hummingbird, SCIONLab, DRKey, LightningFilter, Hercules, and Clockwire. The group also made foundational contributions to the open-source code, as well as authoring the two SCION books published by Springer Verlag.
The SCION Voice award celebrates individuals who actively champion SCION, raise awareness of its benefits, and help bring the technology to new audiences and communities
Why he won: Fritz is a strong voice for SCION, combining deep technical expertise with a passion for advancing the technology and its adoption. A long-standing SCION advocate, he has been a speaker at SCION DAY since its early editions and has represented the technology at numerous workshops and events in Switzerland and abroad. He has contributed to key SCION Association’s Committees, including Registry, Adoption, and Standardization, and helped develop the white paper “Cost savings and business benefits of SCION.” Through his work at SIX, Fritz has played a pivotal role in making the Swiss Secure Finance Network (SSFN) a lighthouse deployment for SCION and a blueprint for other industries and markets – from setting up the SSFN governance to establishing the PKI infrastructure. Simply put: if you know SCION, you know Fritz.
Today, SCION is no longer just a research initiative. It is a proven technology deployed in production environments, supporting critical services and enabling secure and resilient connectivity across industries.
This progress is made possible not only by technological innovation but also by the organizations and individuals who champion new ideas, build connections, overcome deployment challenges, and share their knowledge with the wider community.
Through the SCION Hall of Fame, the SCION Association recognizes the member organizations and people whose commitment helps transform the vision of a more secure and resilient Internet into reality. The winner is chosen by the community through public voting.
Congratulations to all the SCION Hall of Fame 2026 winners! Thank you for your dedication, contributions, and continued support of the SCION community.
