The SCION Association appoints new Chairman Prof. Dr. Lothar Thiele

The SCION Association announces that Prof. Dr. Lothar Thiele has been appointed the new Chairman of its Board of Directors. Lothar currently holds the position of Associate Vice President of ETH Zurich for Digital Transformation, where he plays a pivotal role in advancing technological innovation and championing digital transformation initiatives at ETH Zurich.

Lothar has been actively engaged with the SCION Association since 2021 in various capacities, including as a member of the Association's Advisory Board. Now, Lothar assumes the role of Chairman, succeeding the outgoing Chairwoman, Vanessa Woods, who will continue to represent ETH Zurich on the Board.

With a distinguished career as a Professor of Computer Engineering and Networks Laboratory at ETH Zurich for almost three decades, Prof. Dr. Thiele brings a wealth of expertise in computer sciences. As the newly appointed Chairman of the SCION Association, he says, “The long-term vision is for SCION to benefit society as a whole – a journey that requires standardization acceptance by the Internet community to ensure interoperability with the current Internet and a strong, interconnected and open ecosystem that continues to drive SCION forward in all its aspects, from research to application, with the SCION Association at its center.”

The Association’s Board of Directors composition today includes Prof. Vanessa Wood, Vice President for Knowledge Transfer and Corporate Relations at ETH Zurich, Dr. Thomas Moser, Alternate Member of the Governing Board of the Swiss National Bank, Uli Sigg, an entrepreneur and former Swiss diplomat, Prof. Reto Francioni, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Swiss International Airlines and former Chairman of Deutsche Börse AG, and Dr. Thomas Wellauer, Chairman of the Board of SIX Group.
